2004 Ross Trophy
This trophy was given to the club by Milt Ross who owned a taxi company in Berkeley. He became so enamored of golf that he dropped everything to become a pro. Most of his amateur rounds were played at Tilden, where he was among the Club's earliest members. He succeeded in his passion only to the extent that he became an assistant pro at a few golf clubs, ending up in Las Vegas from whence he disappeared. Location: Tilden Format: Members are responsible for forming their own two person teams. In the qualifier the teams play 18 holes of better ball stroke play with full handicaps. If you don't have a partner the tournament director will try to match you up with some other lonely member. The sixteen low net teams advance to a match play tournament. During the match play the handicaps are spun off the low handicap player in each match. In other words, the higher handicap players are given strokes equal to the differences between their handicaps and that of the lowest handicap player in the foursome. The strokes are applied on each hole which has a handicap rating equal to or lower than the number of strokes a player is receiving.
